Electricity is undoubtedly one of the greatest discoveries of the human race. It has made functioning of many things smoother, more economical and possible. However, the elements related to electricity have evolved over periods of time. Electric goods are no longer similar to what they looked like at the time of their origin. The shapes have changed, sizes have been modified and also the properties of these products have reached a different height altogether. A light bulb from twenty years earlier and its counterpart today are very much different from each other not only in looks, but also in a lot of ways. Similarly the Chrome Light Switches of today are quite different from those of the typical plastic switches used two decades earlier.
The introduction of CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lights) and LED Light bulbs (Light Emitting Diodes) have revolutionized the way of Electricity consumption. They are well known for their energy efficient performance.
CFLs give out the similar kind of light to that of the common incandescent bulbs. They are tinier versions of full sized fluorescents. They did not instantly become the most popular products in the market upon launch, but eventually the consumers took to it and developed the habit of using CFLs in place of ordinary light bulbs.
On the other hand, the LED lights are very efficient solid bulbs with an extreme high energy efficient quotient. At the time of its inception the LED lights were limited to the limited uses such as in instrument panels, electronic appliances, pen lights etc. But with time the application of them have significantly increased with the clustering of small LED bulbs. The first sets of clustered LEDs were used in devices such as headlamps and flashlights. LED technology has advanced rapidly with new styles of bulbs emerging continuously. But interestingly, the prices of these bulbs have reduced compared to their initial phase since the manufacturing cost has gone down over the time.
Benefits of LED lighting
LED light bulbs last ten times longer than any typical incandescent of compact fluorescent.
The durability of these bulbs is much higher since they do not have a filament and are not easily damaged under circumstances which can damage an incandescent bulb.
Needless to say, Light Emitting Diode bulbs are more energy efficient since they use 3 to 30 times less electricity than those of incandescent bulbs.
LED lights are cost higher at the time of purchase but over a longer time, they prove to be cost-effective. More the use, lesser is the cost incurred.
It is a smart choice to replace all kinds of incandescent bulbs and CFLs with energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes.
